Our happy Buddies

Real feedback from clients we've helped with first homes, renovations, refinancing and property investment.

"I cannot recommend Jason Longo highly enough. Jason worked tirelessly throughout the process, exploring every possible option, keeping me informed, and never giving up when others might have. Not only did he manage to secure finance, he achieved a result that genuinely exceeded my expectations. What impressed me most was that Jason treated the situation as if it were his own — always available, proactive, and willing to go the extra mile to find solutions where others saw obstacles."

Lars

Client, worked with Jason

"Tom and co at Buddy Mortgages were absolutely fantastic throughout our entire home-buying journey. From start to finish, he went above and beyond to support us — not just with the mortgage, but the whole process. He helped us navigate everything from agent expectations and regulations to all the small details that can get overwhelming. When it came to the mortgage, he took the time to understand our situation, secured a great rate, and tailored everything to suit our family's lifestyle and priorities."

Alex

Home Buyer, worked with Tom

"I highly recommend the team at Buddy Mortgages and Insurance. They helped us refinance to save on interest, organised a construction loan for major renovations, and reviewed our insurance to ensure we had the right cover for our growing family. Jason was always available to answer any of my questions and made the process as seamless and easy as possible."

Tyson

Home Improver, worked with Jason

"Keely at Buddy Mortgages has been beyond fantastic! She is knowledgeable, efficient and lovely to deal with. She was always quick to respond to my questions and guide me through the whole process. Could not have asked for better. Thank you so much Keely for making it happen!"

Frequently asked questions

How much does a mortgage broker cost?

In most cases, nothing — we're paid a commission by the lender once your loan settles, not by you. That means you get expert advice, a wider comparison of lenders, and someone in your corner throughout the whole process, generally at no cost to you.

Which lenders do you work with?

We have access to 26+ lenders, including all of New Zealand's main banks — ANZ, ASB, BNZ, Kiwibank and Westpac — plus a wider panel of non-bank and specialist lenders. That means we're not tied to any one bank, so the comparison is based on what actually suits your situation.

Do I need to bank with one of the big 5 to get a mortgage?

No. While ANZ, ASB, BNZ, Kiwibank and Westpac cover a large share of the market, they're not always the best fit for every situation. Our access to 26+ lenders, including non-bank and specialist providers, means we can look further afield when a mainstream bank isn't the right option for you.

Can you help me buy before selling my existing home?

Yes — this is one of the situations we help with most often. We'll talk through bridging finance and timing options based on your circumstances.

Can I get a home loan if I'm self-employed?

Often, yes. Lenders assess self-employed income differently, and we can help identify which options suit your business structure and financials.

How does first-home loan pre-approval work?

We'll help you understand what's needed for pre-approval, including deposit requirements, and manage the application on your behalf.

Should I refinance or refix my mortgage?

It depends on your current rate, term and goals. We'll compare your existing loan against what's currently available before you decide.

Can you help with investment-property finance?

Yes, whether you're purchasing your first investment property or growing an existing portfolio.

What happens after I submit an enquiry?

A mortgage adviser will be in touch to arrange a time to talk through your situation and next steps — there's no obligation.
